After a day of visiting a friend in Brooklyn, I was inspired after looking up at a building and seeing three very different people doing everyday tasks on their respective fire escapes. I started with character sketches in Procreate and then created each character in vector shapes in Illustrator so I could then bring each one into After Effects. I wanted to capture each character's personality while keeping within the formula of simple vector shapes and a looping animation in the end.
